Privacy Policy
Book Nomads keeps only what your literary atlas needs to work. Here is what that means, in plain language.
What we keep
Your account: your email address and password (stored securely by our sign-in system), or your Google sign-in if you choose that option. Your email is never shown to other readers.
Your reader name: an anonymous username is created for you, which you can change in Settings.
Your reading: the books you are reading, want to read, or have finished, plus any notes, and the places and progress your atlas shows.
What you share: world tours you create or join, books you recommend, tour recommendations, and books you suggest for the library.
Why we keep it
Only to make Book Nomads work: to sign you in, fill in your personal map, show your bookshelf and tours, and count community recommendations. Recommendation counts are shown as totals — other readers cannot see who recommended what.
What we never collect
No advertising trackers, profiling, or selling of your data. We do not collect your location, contacts, browsing elsewhere, advertising identifiers, or device details.
How your information is kept safe
Your password is never stored as you typed it. Sign-in is handled by a dedicated, isolated system that scrambles your password before it is ever saved, so nobody — including us — can read it.
Your email address stays in that same private sign-in system. It is not part of your public reader profile, and other readers only ever see the anonymous username you were given.
Your personal reading records — your bookshelf, notes, ratings, progress, challenges and badges — are locked to your account by rules enforced by the database itself, not just by the website. A request that is not yours is refused outright.
Everything travels between your device and Book Nomads over an encrypted connection.
Public by choice, private by default: the shared library of books, authors and places, and any tour you publish, are public. Your shelf, your reading history, your challenge progress, your badge choices and your settings are private unless you choose to share them.
No online service can promise perfect safety, so please use a password you do not use elsewhere, and sign out on shared devices.
Links to other sites
Some books include a “Get it on Amazon” link. Book Nomads is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program; if you follow one of these links, Amazon handles that visit under its own privacy policy. Book covers may be loaded from public book catalogs such as Open Library and Google Books. Links to our merch shop also open that site under its own policies.
Your choices
You can browse the map and library without an account. If you create one, you can change your username and delete your account at any time, in one step, from Settings.
Deleting your account permanently removes your sign-in details, your bookshelf, notes, ratings, progress and explored places, your challenges, badges and completed tours, the tours you created and the books you suggested. It cannot be undone. Books already added to the shared library stay there for other readers, with no name attached.
